About BR Associates
BR Associates was founded in 1996 by Barbara Reese with the goal to create and offer quality educational programming.
Barbara has spent her life working with both youth and adults. Prior to founding BR Associates, she was a substitute teacher, an award winning educational coordinator for a non-profit and a 4-H volunteer leader. She is a certified Youth Trainer for Prudential Youth Leadership Institute, a certified moderator for Public Policy Institute Issue Forums and a nationally certified CHARACTER COUNTS! trainer.
Barbara worked as an Environmental Education Fellow for the Virginia Education Resource Council during 1996-98 - traveling around the state demonstrating methods to teach recycling, waste reduction and waste management . During this time, she also wrote the "Quick and Dirty Fact Sheets" on waste management. In 1998, she created the Hands On History programs designed to teach elementary students about colonial and pioneer history with hands on activities. Later she added Native American history and activities.
In 1998, Barbara started work on the Teen Leadership Program (primarily through 4-H). It was refined to become a four year leadership developmental program for teens. In 2003, this Teen Leadership Program received the Outstanding Leadership Program Award from the Association of Leadership Educators. The Getting the Best (from your staff and out of your business) program was developed in 2006 using the knowledge gained from teaching leadership and working with businesses through the Prince William County - Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to the ongoing programs created by BR Associates, Barbara also develops specialized educational programs and hands on activities. Some of these include the activities for the Manassas Heritage Railway Festival and the original Children's Activity Barn at the Prince William County Fair.
Barbara was a 4-H volunteer for 22 years, serving as a leader of serveral local clubs and on numerous local, district and state boards including as an Advisor to the State Cabinet (teens) for eight years. She is also a Past President of the Committee of 100, a science fair judge for many years, a school volunteer at all her children's schools and as a member on several local commissions (Commission on Women, Commission for the Future Health and Safety Task Force).
